Exciting times for mobile video.  With full support for Flash on mobile devices, Adobe will certainly cement themselves as a market leaders.  Now, if only Apple would get onboard with Flash!!

Now this is some pretty darned good news. Adobe (NSDQ: ADBE) CEO Shantanu Naraye let it slip during an investor call that the company plans to debut Flash 10 for smartphones running the Android, Symbian S60, Palm webOS, and Windows Mobile platforms.

What a shame the iPhone isn't included on that list of smartphone platforms, eh?

Here's exactly what Naraye said, by way of MobileCrunch:

    "We are bringing Flash Player 10 to smartphone class devices to enable the latest web browsing experience. Multiple partners have already received early versions of this release and we expect to release a beta version for developers at our MAX Conference in October.Google (NSDQ: GOOG)'s Android, Nokia (NYSE: NOK)'s Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, and the New Palm Web OS will be among the first devices to support web browsing with the newest Flash player".

    "Companies including ARM, NVIDIA (NSDQ: NVDA), Broadcom (NSDQ: BRCM), Intel (NSDQ: INTC), Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN), and Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) are optimizing Flash player for their processors and platforms. We continue to see momentum for the open stream project and now have 25 participants on board to use Flash as a consistent run-time across screens".

The beta version of the Flash 10 player will, of course, enable these devices to have a much richer mobile Internet browsing experience. That will include the ability to play back some embedded video on Web pages. Once this software debuts, owners of smartphones other than the iPhone may actually have something to crow about.
